Election Season - The Final Step
Updated
May 5, 2008
Each year at the April Social Meeting, we accept nominations for the four elected positions (president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary). Typically the votes are tallied during the May Social Meeting and the winners announced. Admittedly, this wasn't much of an election season. Jeff Kita was the only candidate nominated for president again this year; however, we did get a new face on the board, Phil Slater, who was nominated for treasurer. Unfortunately there were no nominations for vice-president and secretary. There's still time for someone to step up and fill these positions for the coming year. I'll bet given a chance you could help take the club down new and exciting paths! If you would like to contribute and make a difference in keeping Desert Adventures the dynamic social group that it is, please talk to Jeff at the May Social Meeting on Tues, May 6.
The Algodones Adventure is coming!
Make sure you're ready for out next shopping extravaganza!

Our last Mexico shopping trip was so popular we've schedules another trip to Algodones! Getting into Mexico is easy, just walk through the gate. Getting back is the tricky part. The "passport only" rule has been pushed back to June of next year so you procrastinators have a reprieve. You will need either a passport or both your driver's license and your birth certificate to get back into the U.S. If you have to get your hands on a birth certificate why not go ahead and get your passport. It's good for 15 years and it does make domestic airline travel easier (you can scan your passport at the self service terminals at the airport). More...

Will the TV in my Popup Trailer become a Paperweight?
Posted
March 17, 2008
On Febr 18 (just a few months from now) all the TV channels you know and love will be showing nothing but snow. That's the day broadcast TV goes all digital. The cable company is going to continue to send the regular TV channels but that doesn't help the TV that many of you keep in your campers to catch the late show before going to bed. You have two options: either buy a new TV (all new TVs now come with ATSC digital tuners) or you'll need to buy a converter box (the converter box will translate the digital TV channels to a signal your old TV can use). Getting a new TV (or converter box) would be a good use for your economic stimulus check and you could start watching those perfect digital pictures right now! Another way the government is helping to cover the cost of the switchover is by providing each household with two $40 coupons that can be used towards the purchase of converter boxes. You can request your coupons at the digital TV web site. More...
